Our First Appalachian Trail Hike on Sept. 5th

On September 5th we had our first hike ! During the hike we had a lesson on Invasive species ,kindly taught to us by Shawn ,who has thru-hiked the the trail and works on it . He showed us all sorts of cool things, like how to identify Invasive Honeysuckle ,the difference between Bittersweet and Grape vines, and the beauty but danger of Multi flora roses! Did you know it was brought over to America by Queen Elizabeth?  We also learned about trail names. You make up a new name for yourself when you hike the trail long distance!   Shawn is Photobomber and Mrs.Garcia met a couple who called themselves Zippy and Ditto !We hiked for 3 and a half  miles! It was so much FUN! [but we all came back with sore feet.]

Welcome

Welcome to the beginning of our new adventure.  This blog will act as a year long journal for our class.  Each day a new student will be writing on the blog as a reflection of what we experienced in class the day before.  It will also be a place for them to document projects we are working on, events in our class, field trips and any other cool adventures we might be having.  Please check back often and please subscribe so that you get emails when we post.  I will also be posting at times to document our experiences with the Appalachian Trail.  The blog will be public, but not searchable, therefore being sent the link to the site is the only way people will find it.  Please feel free to share it with relatives and friends that you think might be interested in what we are doing.
Let the adventure begin.
